Questions?

What is a cohousing community?

Cohousing communities are a form of intentional community that is modelled after a Danish concept. Like many cohousing communties, Roberts Creek Cohousing uses a collaborative, consensus-based decision-making process that values the wisdom of the whole. Roberts Creek Cohousing was Canada's first rural cohousing community and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. If you would like to learn more about cohousing in Canada you can visit the Canadian Cohousing website here https://cohousing.ca/.  If you would like to know more about Roberts Creek Cohousing community, you can visit the community's website here http://www.robertscreekcohousing.ca/

What kind of ownership is this home? Is it strata or freehold?

This property is a bit of both! If you were to purchase a home in RC Cohousing, you would have freehold title of your yard and home, as well as equal shares in the common property and land which is comprised of a 3000 sqft Common House with Guest Suite, laundry, children's playroom, office with computer and wifi, two lounges with tvs for member use, a commercial kitchen and diningroom that can be used for community gatherings and private functions as well as a woodshop and a gym for member use and 15 acres of trails bordering Clack and Roberts Creeks. Members are invited to participate in community decision-making and processes and get invovled in organized events such as potlucks and meals, dances and talent shows as well as 4 to 6 work parties that occur throughout the year to help maintain the community's lovely gardens and keep strata fees at a low $200/month.

Why do people choose to live in cohousing communities?

People choose intentional community for a wide variety of reasons, but a common thread seems to be connection. Roberts Creek Cohousing is a multigenerational community of folks from a variety of backgrounds. The community's T shaped pedestrian pathway that the 31 homes line provides neighbours ample opportunity to connect and get to know each other. There is a feeling that you've stepped back in time when you enter this little haven of Cohousing here in the heart of Roberts Creek.
